Non-Formal Education as a Component of Lifelong Learning: Conceptual Perspectives and Practical Relevance
Keywords:
extracurricular activities; student-centered learning; competency development; community partnershipAbstract
This paper examines the role of non-formal education in supporting lifelong learning and developing transversal competencies in contemporary society. Starting from the relationship between formal, non-formal, and informal education, the study highlights the complementary, compensatory, and innovative functions of non-formal learning. The analysis emphasizes its flexible, experiential, participatory, and learner-centred character, reflected in extracurricular activities, educational workshops, community projects, camps, and cultural or sports programs. The paper also underlines the importance of educational management in planning, organizing, monitoring, and evaluating non-formal activities. The integration of non-formal education into school practice contributes to a modern, inclusive, and sustainable educational system.
