Functional Literacy - A Strategic Priority in Education in Romania?
Abstract
Functional literacy is an important concept in the context of education and personal development. The components of functional literacy are: literacy, mathematical literacy, scientific literacy. In Romania, increasing the functional literacy level of students and even students are a priority, considering the high rate of functional illiteracy among Romanian students (44-47% in the 2018 PISA tests). By clearly understanding these components and through educational efforts, we can contribute to the development of the necessary skills for active and autonomous participation in society. Moreover, qualitative research in higher education is necessary considering the scale of the process in secondary education.
