Social Equity and Inclusion in Urban Development
Abstract
Rapid urbanization increases competition for limited urban resources and accentuate the need for policies that promote equitable access to all types of resources. This article presents the problems that highly urban areas have had over the years, facing sustainable urban development. Review of policy documents, strategies and plans within the ambit of urban development was done. Documents were sourced from organizational websites and offices (URBACT European programme). Emerging themes on equity and social inclusion (education, ageing, poverty, youth, and housing) in access urban resources were identified and analysed.
