Abstract

As it is the age of information revolution, it is very clear that effective utilization of cell phone in English language teaching and learning have become inevitable. Human life in all walks of life is by cell phone. The life of a common man starts at dawn with a cell phone and lasts till late in the night: One who is smart the device appropriately attains one’s goal. English language plays a vital role in students employment opportunity in their career depends on one’s proficiency of English language. The major problem faced by students coming from vernacular medium and rural locations is that they could not grasp the meaning and were not able to respond in English with apt words and clarity of expression and pronunciation. English language learners benefit from the reinforcement of vocabulary and concepts by utilizing and combining graphics, pictures, video, recording pronunciation etc. through mobile apps & internet resources. Traditional modes of language teaching with proper use of the device can help learning English language effortlessly through innovative methods of learning. The cell phone offers television programmes, web-assisted materials, self help group discussions, and interviews, presentations online app etc. improve their oral and written skills besides they can enhance their active and passive vocabulary. Hence this paper explores the ways of effective use of cell phone in English Language Teaching and Learning.
