The Diplomatic Service of the European Union
Abstract
Engendered by the Treaty of Lisbon, the European External Action Service (EEAS) is the Diplomatic Service of the European Union and represents a major institutional innovation, one of the most significant changes introduced by this treaty.
EEAS was established by decision of the Council of Ministers on 26 July 2010 and was formally launched on 1st January 2011 that constituted a major step in the European integration process and in developing a common foreign policy.
In this paper we aim to include elements of analysis about its creation, structure, organization, collaboration with other EU institutions, its role and responsibilities related EU foreign policy priorities. We emphasize the contribution of the EEAS to strengthening the coherence and increasing impact and visibility of European Union action at international level and therefore of the Member States.
For the elaboration of the paper we have used as research methods the analysis of problems generated by the mentioned subject with reference to doctrinal views expressed in treaties and papers, the documentary research, the interpretation of legal norms in the matter.
