Realism, Liberalism and the Current Security Issues in Central and Eastern Europe: A Theoretical Overview
Abstract
Realism and Liberalism include a wide variety of research programs that have proved relevant for the study of Central and Eastern Europe, from an International Relations perspective. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has created the need for a review of such approaches, mainly from the perspective of their analyses and predictions regarding Russia’s foreign policy behaviour. The main argument of this paper is that these new developments have opened a new stage in the debate between Realists and Liberals, regarding the architecture of regional security.
